ABOUT ME
Brittany Walsh, also known by her pen name Bee Walsh, is a writer, poet, and disability advocate whose work bridges the intimate and the universal, exploring themes of chronic illness, disability, and identity with raw emotional depth. Born and raised in New York City, Brittany now resides in Buffalo, New York, where she continues to craft poetry, stories, and essays that challenge societal perceptions of disability while offering nuanced reflections on resilience, community, and the complexities of the human experience.
Brittany lives with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome as well as a number of additional chronic illnesses. Her health journey, including becoming a wheelchair user and undergoing numerous life-altering medical procedures, profoundly shapes her writing. Through her work, she strives to highlight the realities of living with chronic illness while advocating for accessibility and systemic change.
Her debut book, Manning Up, delved into her personal struggles with an eating disorder, earning critical acclaim for its unflinching honesty and poetic style. Currently, she is at work on her second, a creative nonfiction collection that explores the discomfort, rage, and beauty inherent in disabled life. Through essays blending personal reflection and broader cultural critique, the book examines topics such as medical gaslighting, grief, and the profound importance of disabled community.
Brittany combines a sharp analytical mind with a gift for lyrical storytelling. Her poetry, which draws inspiration from writers like Mary Oliver and Richard Brautigan, transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary, often reflecting on the intersections of identity, memory, and the body.
Beyond her creative pursuits, Brittany is a fierce advocate for disability rights, working to raise awareness about the physical, emotional, and systemic challenges faced by disabled individuals. She believes in fostering a world where accessibility is a given, not a fight, and where disabled lives are celebrated for their complexity and strength.
When not writing, Brittany enjoys the quiet moments of life—savoring coffee, exploring in nature, and connecting with others in the disabled and queer communities. Through her words and advocacy, she invites her audience to reimagine the narratives we tell about bodies, endurance, and belonging.
This space, beewalsh.net, is her home for sharing the stories and reflections that define her journey—one rooted in vulnerability, creativity, and a commitment to leaving the world better than she found it.
